In August 2022, there won’t be many new theatrical releases, but Beast, the new thriller starring Idris Elba, will be one of the big ones. Will the movie eventually be available on Netflix since it will likely remain in theatres for some time? The majority will say “yes,” but when will depend on where you live. Idris Elba plays a father visiting the Monpani Game Reserve in South Africa with his teenage daughters in the new Universal survival thriller directed by Baltasar Kormákur. After being pursued by a pride of lions, things go wrong. According to RottenTomatoes, there is a critical consensus that the film is getting mixed to positive reviews, and that “The admirably lean yet ultimately disposable Beast is just the movie you’re looking for.”
We already know that Beast will eventually be available on Netflix thanks to a deal made between Netflix and Universal in 2021. According to the agreement, “As part of the deal, Netflix will also licence rights to the full UFEG animated and live action slate about 4 years after release as well as rights to select titles from Universal’s enormous movie library.”
So, at the earliest, we can anticipate that Beast will debut on Netflix US in 2026. If you’re in a hurry, it’s best to visit a theatre or to wait for the theatrical window to close before going to Peacock for the first window because that is a very long time to wait. Anytime between October 2022 and December 2022, the film will be on Peacock and remain there for 18 months. It will then proceed to Starz.
Will Beast be available on Netflix worldwide?
We don’t have information on windowing in other countries, unlike the United States. Still, we can look at additions from this year and previous years to predict which Netflix regions will get Beast in the coming months and years.
Within the next three months, new Universal films will be released in parts of Central Europe. The 355 has been added to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romanic, and Slovakia in the same pay-1 window that Peacock gets movies in the United States. Based on this, the film will be available on Netflix in those regions between October 2022 and December 2022.
Netflix in South Korea receives new Universal films about a year after their theatrical debut, which means they will get it in 2023.
Most Netflix users in countries such as Canada, Japan, South Africa, India, and the United Kingdom receive new Universal films approximately two and a half years after their theatrical release. That means it won’t be available on Netflix until at least 2024.
In the meantime, Netflix has plenty of Idris Elba content to keep you entertained. Beasts of No Nation, Netflix’s first major original film, was released, as was the comedy series Turn Up Charlie (canceled after a single season).
