In spite of its enormous success, Neil Gaiman explains why season 2 of The Sandman might not be renewed. The Sandman was a film adaptation that dragged its feet for years, based on Neil Gaiman’s beloved comic novel of the same name. Gaiman, David S. Goyer from The Dark Knight Trilogy, and Wonder Woman’s Allan Heinberg serves as executive producers.

The project was initially intended to be a film, but when those plans fell through, Netflix stepped in and decided to turn The Sandman into a TV series in 2019. The comic series has a devoted following thanks to its distinctive aesthetics and grim topics. Given the original work’s spectacular imagery and intricate story structure, it almost appeared impossible to adapt the series for film or television. But the new Netflix series has dispelled any concerns about the show’s adaptability. This is in part due to the involvement of Gaiman, who works on the upcoming Netflix series as an executive producer. The series, starring Tom Sturridge, tells the tale of a man who escapes from a 100-year prison sentence and embarks on a mission to rebuild his Kingdom of Dreaming. It debuted on Netflix on August 5.

Although, according to a tweet from Gaiman, we might need to wait a long before anticipating an announcement in any case. The discussion began with a cryptic tweet from Gaiman, which revealed that it was in reference to more Sandman episodes being made available on Netflix. A second season is not a given given Netflix’s track record of axing cherished shows. The future of Sandman on the streaming platform appears to be to be highly dubious for the time being.

While many may view The Sandman season 2 as a sure thing, Gaiman is cautioning fans not to get too excited because the show’s success so far might not be enough to justify a renewal. Since its debut, the seriex has consistently held the top two positions on Netflix’s list of the ten most popular shows both domestically and abroad. However, Gaiman has issued a warning, stating that before Netflix can decide the show’s future, it must maintain its ranking for at least a month. There is still time left till that time has passed given that the show has only been available for two weeks. Therefore, in early to mid-September, viewers should keep an eye out for a decision about the show’s future.

The show has a high price tag, as Gaiman has said, therefore the revenue must be sufficient to cover the large investments. Lately, as a result of Netflix’s financial difficulties the service lost roughly 1 million customers in Q2, its programming strategy has taken a more defensive stance. Even so, The Sandman has been an unquestionable success for Netflix, and there is still a lot of tale still to be told, so there is a fair chance that the streaming service will eventually see its long-term benefits and renew it.
