The popular time-traveling thriller series The Lazarus Project on Sky U.K. will have a second season, the network said on Thursday. As reported by THR, Sky has now revealed that the espionage series will return for a second season, so fans of the time-bending action drama series can start preparing for another thrilling voyage across various realities.

The Lazarus Project, billed as a cross between Doctor Who and Spooks, centres on George (Paapa Essiedu), a typical man whose life is changed when he discovers he has the power to bend space and time. His abilities land him on the payroll of a clandestine group tasked with using time-shifting as a prophylactic measure to save the Earth from extinction catastrophes. Later, George finds himself at a crossroads, having to decide between love and fate.

On June 16, the first eight episodes of the series premiered on Sky Max. It was an instant success, drawing large audiences and receiving raving reviews. It was Sky’s second-biggest original drama of 2022 thus far with a staggering 1.7 million viewers over a 28-day span. Joe Barton, the show’s creator said, “We are thrilled at the success of series one and at Sky’s recommission.” Barton added, “We have bold and ambitious plans for series two which will reunite all our characters in more thrilling and mind-bending adventures.”

Essiedu, Charly Clive (All My Friends Hate Me), Rudi Dharmalingam (The Split), and Anjli Mohindra (Munich: The Edge of War) will all reprise their roles in The Lazarus Project for Season 2. The first seasons’ directors for episodes 1-4 were Marco Kreuzpaintner, episodes 5 and 6 were Laura Scrivano, and episode 7 was Akaash Meeda (episodes 7 and 8). Executive producing the show are Barton, Paul Gilbert of Sky, Johnny Capps, Julian Murphy, and Urban Myth Films.

The Lazarus Project was a popular choice at this year’s L.A. Screenings and was subsequently purchased by a number of international companies, including Stan in Australia, Corus in Canada for Showcase and StackTV, Wavve in Korea for online streaming, and Sky in New Zealand for SoHo Channel, Neon, and Sky Go. On behalf of Sky Studios, NBCUniversal Global Distribution manages the series’ worldwide sales.
