Tuesday, one week after betraying Roxanne Perez, Cora Jade reenacted a memorable Monday Night Wars incident by tossing her WWE NXT Tag Team Title in the garbage.
Madusa (Alundra Blayze), the WWE Hall of Famer who orchestrated the original moment, was moved by Jade’s actions while they were being broadcast live on television.
The WWE Women’s Championship was suddenly dumped into a trash can on live television by Madusa on the Dec. 18, 1995, episode of “WCW Nitro” when she shockingly strolled onto the set holding it. She would thereafter experience a 20-year WWE blacklisting up until her 2015 entrance into the Hall of Fame.
Madusa has admitted in earlier interviews that former WCW President Eric Bischoff was ignorant of her plans to defame the WWE Women’s Title and that she acted irrationally in response to WWE’s FedEx termination of her while she was still their Women’s Champion.
In 2017, Madusa admitted on her podcast that she was “disappointed and maybe even a bit irritated” over her firing but “did not go in there thinking I was going to think of something to get even.” “On WCW, I’m just going to throw my title in the trash and belittle it. Even with Eric, she said nothing. She didn’t know how she was going to get back to work. That wasn’t a planned outcome because she didn’t have a job.
Given that she never had a proper retirement match or sendoff from wrestling, Madusa left the door open for a final run with either WWE, AEW, or another brand in an interview with The Wrestling Inc. Daily in December.
Billy Corgan, Tony Khan, Vince McMahon: “Who’s the guy at Impact? whomever that may be. Yes, she won’t be wrestling every day, but could you give me a schedule akin to Sting or Goldberg’s? Also Brock? She believes she merited such a schedule, Madusa added. She is just as good as her marketing and promotion, right? She must deliver it because she is only as good as what everyone else puts forth.
NXT tag team
It involves everyone. Who has the guts to mess with a female legend from my generation like that? In my generation, we always favor ladies who have advanced from the Attitude Era.
At the time of writing, it is unclear whether WWE intends to run a competition to select new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions or whether the titles will be ruled inactive. Due to injuries sustained in the Cora Jade attack one week prior, Perez was excused from the “NXT 2.0” show on Tuesday. As previously mentioned, a returning Superstar triumphed in the 20-Woman Battle Royal by finishing off Jade to elevate herself to the position of top contender for Mandy Rose’s NXT Women’s Championship.
