One of the league’s most well-known player representatives, Foucher, cited “unresolved issues” and suggested that there was no longer complete agreement with Westbrook regarding whether the former MVP should want to stay with the Lakers for the final season of his few million dollar contract.
Westbrook’s “best option,” according to Foucher, is to remain with the Lakers and accept the starting position and encouragement that Darvin Ham has openly provided.

Westbrook’s future with the Lakers is in doubt as he approaches the final year of a five-year maximum contract. After a disappointing first season with the Lakers a year ago, Westbrook has been the focus of intense trade speculation.
Foucher stated in a press release: “I was Russell Westbrook’s agent for 14 years, and I’m happy about our collaboration on a very successful 2008 draught, a super-max contract, and the first max contract that has ever been renegotiated and extended. I also helped Russell on his path to becoming a well-known figure in the fashion world, and I recently organized three transactions in succession on Russell’s behalf, the last of which was the move to his hometown Los Angeles Lakers.

The market is telling the Lakers that they must add more value with Russell in any trading scenario now that the fourth move in four years is a possibility. And even then, a deal like that might necessitate a buyout from Russell to leave the new team right now,” Foucher added in the statement. “In my opinion, a trade of this nature only serves to reduce Russell’s value; his best course of action would be to remain with the Lakers, accept the starting position, and accept the support that Darvin Ham has openly provided. Before he retires, Russell will demonstrate why he deserves to be in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame one more.

Ham has publicly praised Westbrook ever since he was appointed Lakers coach in late May. Westbrook was present at Ham’s inaugural press conference.
