Angelina Jolie’s ‘Without Blood,’ the first project under her three-year partnership with Fremantle, has landed Hollywood actors Salma Hayek Pinault and Demian Bichir on board. According to a source, the team will direct the film, which began principal photography this month in Southern Italy and Rome and is based on Alessandro Baricco’s international bestseller novel.

While Hayek Pinault has been filming ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance,’ Mexican actor Bichir is gearing up to start shooting on Thanksgiving. ‘Without Blood’ is Jolie’s fifth directorial effort and the first under her three-year Fremantle deal, which will see her produce, direct, and feature in a slew of films, TV series, and documentaries. As per source, speaking about the project, she said, “I’m honoured to be here in Italy to bring this very special material to film and to have been entrusted by Alessandro Baricco with the adaptation of his book – with its unique poetry and emotion and way of looking at war, and the questions it poses about what we search for after trauma or loss or injustice.”

“Without Blood,” based on Alessandro Baricco’s best-selling novel, depicts the story of a young girl who survives a war only to find her trauma feeding her retribution years later against those who have wronged her. Additional than the fact that production will take place in Italy, there are no other facts concerning the project.  “Freedom to tell important stories and bring them to a global audience.”was the reason for Jolie to make this deal, she said. “I am excited to be working with such a passionate and forward-looking team that has an international perspective,” she concluded. Obviously, this new contract means we can expect a lot more content from Jolie in the coming years, whether it’s from her as a filmmaker or as a producer or an actress.
