In a property that has spawned a slew of new projects and shows in recent years, Star Trek continues to boldly go where few others have gone before. While there may be more films in the works, the saga that began with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy continues to entice audiences with new twists and turns. One of these is Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a definitive reference to the original series in a chronology we didn’t expect to see the first time around.Given that Paramount is working on a sequel, there’s already talk of a second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds now that the first season has officially begun. Let’s take a look at what we know about season two so far.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premiered in early May to much anticipation, kicking off a series that has been in the works for decades. The crew of The Enterprise is followed in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, albeit in a reality before we met the cast who would make the show famous. Captain Christopher Pike, who was supposed to be the series’ primary character, is at the helm of the ship. There are also several characters from the original series who have been reimagined as younger versions. The show takes place only a few years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series or Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will take up where the first season left off, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen the recast cast of characters. Anson Mount debuted as Christopher Pike in Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 when he temporarily took over as captain of the titular ship. In Discovery’s second season, we also meet Ethan Peck’s Spock, who is wrongfully convicted of murder and is on the run, as well as Rebecca Romijn’s Number One.The events of that season set the stage for what happens in Strange New Worlds, but not every character is aware of what happened in Discovery, and you don’t need to watch that season to follow the current series. All you need to know is that after the events of Discovery, Pike is given a glimpse of the future that makes him apprehensive to return to the Captain’s chair in the Strange New Worlds premiere.

Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is expected to premiere in 2023, according to current conjecture. With the first season premiering on Paramount+ in early May, a similar schedule would make sense if they want to keep the broadcasting consistent from season to season. This would be in keeping with the original programme and where the franchise grew in popularity.
