Finally, Is It Cake? enthusiasts, we have some exciting news! Season 2 of the hit Netflix comedy has been renewed, with host Mikey Day returning! The presentation, which made us all question our reality on multiple occasions, was a glimpse into the world of cake manufacturing. But not just any cake will do. It was part of a trend that occurred during quarantine in which seemingly ordinary objects turned out to be extremely realistic-looking cakes. The fad was converted into a reality programme by Netflix. And now we’re going to have more bakers and more challenges, and honestly? Good.
The presentation was unexpectedly entertaining, and watching as incredibly creative bakers transformed red Solo cups into cake was both astounding and shocking, so we never felt like we were wasting our time. So it seems like a no-brainer to renew the show for a second season. Day was a fantastic host, combining his lack of baking knowledge with a funny take on everything that was going on to create a fantastic programme.
The second season, produced by Alfred Street Industries and executive produced by Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz, Nan Strait, Dan Volpe, and Andrew Wallace, will include a brand new cast of participants and guest judges to assist decide whether or not what they see is cake.
The show’s format was straightforward: bakers had to figure out which of the items in front of them were cakes and which were not. You advance to the next round of baking if you properly identify the cake. But if you don’t, you won’t be sent off the programme; instead, you’ll have to wait for the next round, and so on. After the bakers have been picked, they are assigned to a category and must choose a different thing to produce. There, they must surprise the judges and deceive them by using their own real-life goods to pair with their cake.
The show is a baking workshop, but it’s also entertaining to see how these trick cakes work and how good some of them are. They produced luggage in Season 1, and the fabric bits that were part of the cake were so convincing that it seemed improper that they were eaten!
