Officers shot and killed the shooter, identified as Salvador Ramos, a young local. He shot his 66-year-old grandma in the face at their Uvalde home before fleeing in her truck while she called for help. He detailed his deadly preparations in internet chats shortly before the school attack. The motivation for the shootings is unknown, according to investigators.
According to officials, the gunman crashed his truck outside the school, exited with a rifle, and approached a back entrance. He was “engaged” by an officer assigned to the school, but he went into the building and down a hallway to a fourth-grade classroom. He started fire with an AR-15-style rifle and many magazines after closing the classroom door. According to authorities, a team of local officers and Border Patrol agents eventually pushed the door open and shot him to death when he fired at them.
While Markle offered in-person solidarity for the parents of the children killed in the tragic shooting, several other celebrities expressed their sympathies on social media. Matthew McConaughey, an actor, also spoke out against the school tragedy in his hometown, saying, “We cannot exhale once again, make excuses, and accept these tragic realities as the status quo. e have to rearrange our values and find a common ground above this devastating American reality that has tragically become our children’s issue.”
