A feature-length documentary that examines how one man’s brilliance, hubris, and unwavering desire altered the character of war forever, caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, and sparked widespread hysteria, as well as how that same man’s later attempts to negotiate peace fared.
The book is credited with greatly inspiring Oppenheimer. “Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds,” he had said.
“I did read the Bhagavad Gita in preparation. The actor from ’28 Days Later’ continued by calling the book “absolutely beautiful and very inspiring.” After the first atomic bomb was successfully tested in 1945, J. Robert Oppenheimer discussed how the Gita came to mind in an old film that has been making the rounds on the internet. He quoted from the text, “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”
