Selena Gomez made her Saturday Night Live debut on May 14, and in her opening monologue, she mentioned that she had been a huge fan of the show. Throughout her monologue Gomez said she was pleased to host the show, which she used to watch with her mother every Saturday night. Moreover, she’d come a long way from beginning her acting career on the children’s show Barney to alongside “SNL” luminaries Steve Martin and Martin Short. However, she stated that she was most looking forward to hosting the show because she is unmarried and looking for love.

Gomez said, “One reason I’m excited to host SNL is that I’m single and I’ve heard SNL is a great place to find romance. Emma Stone met her husband (Dave McCary) here, Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost. And Pete and Machine Gun Kelly. And because I don’t really want to try the dating apps, I’d like to put it out there and say I’m manifesting love and looking for my soulmate – but at this point I’ll take anyone.” Responding to the singer’s joke, Kyle Mooney said, “I’ll do it” to which Gomez replied, “Aren’t you married?” Mooney noted, “Oh that’s right.” While she would prefer to be seeking for her soulmate, the singer and actress claimed she was working on manifesting love.

Gomez admitted she was a little scared about hosting the show, but she was reminded of the words of wisdom given to her by one of her co-stars before each performance.”I love you, you love me, we’re a happy family,” she stated before breaking into famous Barney song and inviting the audience to sing along with her.

SNL released a preview with her and musical guest Post Malone, as well as cast members Aidy Bryant and Bowen Yang, two days before the event. When asked if she was scared about hosting, she replied, “I’m just excited.”Selena has made us chuckle in other places than Saturday Night Live.
