“Moon Knight” Season 1 Episode 2 Review

Moon Knight Episode 2 14 1

The second episode of Marvel’s new show Moon Knight is here on Disney+ but it’s not as scintillating as the first episode. The episode will still keep you glued to the screen thanks to Oscar Isaac and Ethan Harrow. We are also introduced to May Calamawy as Layla-EL-Fausly. Meanwhile, Steven is at war with his other personality Marc more than ever as he tries to take control.

The first episode cracked with slapstick mystery thanks to Steven Grant’s confusion while living a half-life and serving an Egyptian god. The utter irrationality of this character is now feeling like the anchor holding back the show as the puzzle pieces begin to fall into place. Though Marc never feels the need to fully explain everything to Steven, we’re still accumulating questions, and Episode 2 only gave us a little bit of information.

What do we know so far?

Marc Spector is Khonshu’s avatar, a deity who saved Marc. Despite not enjoying the work, he does it to prevent Khonshu from making Layla his next avatar. In that sense, the two heroic quests are to stop Harrow from unleashing the wrath of Ammit on humanity and to save Layla from Khonshu. Some of the unanswered questions are: Marc and Steven used to switch places in the past, how did that work? Why did Marc specifically choose steven to hide? How much of Steven’s life is a lie?

Things got resolved at the end of the episode, but not before Steven and Mark continued to contend with each other’s wits.A hilarious part of this episode was Marc’s attempts to convince Steven to move into a locker so Marc could be in charge. There’s a lot going on here, but Isaac manages to do a fine job out of it, but story-wise, our main character doesn’t see much point in his actions.
