Google cloud the cloud computing services offered by Google is set to get expensive from October the company announced. This will affect the major core services provided by Google cloud-like storage, computing and networking.
In a statement, Sachin Gupta Vice president and GM of Google’s cloud Infrastructure said: ” While the customers may see an increase in their bill we’re also introducing new options for some services to better align with usage which could lower some customers’ bill”.
He also added that “We’re working directly with customers to help them understand which charges may impact them directly. Other charges will raise prices on certain products. Ultimately our goal is to provide more flexible pricing models and options for how customers are using our cloud services”.
Google Cloud class A services will double from $0.10 per 10,000 to $0.20, although some lower-cost options will also be added.
Google also said, “Customers under existing commit contracts with floating or fixed discount will not face any charges until renewal.”
Some Changes are:
- Changes in price of data-mobility , including replication of data written to multi-region storage.
- Introduction of a new lower cost archive snapshot options for Persistent Disk(PD) so that compliance/ archiving use cases are charged less than compute intensive DevOps Workload.
- New outbound data processing pricing for Cloud Load Balancing, in line with other leading cloud providers.
- New pricing for Network Topology, which will include Performance Dashboard within Network Intelligence Center at no additional charge.
These price hikes also saw a lot of criticism, from customers and also from Mark Boos, CEO of Kubernetes cloud services provider, CIVO saying these are “unexpected costs”. He also added, ” Google cloud’s pricing changes are symbolic of the direction of travel from big cloud provider prioritizing profits over customers interest”.
Google also said that it has provided the customers with a six months notice period about the increase in prices of cloud services.
