Alec Baldwin has issued an open statement from the film’s staff members refuting accusations that the set was hazardous, weeks after the fatal ‘Rust’ shooting disaster.

Alec Baldwin has sent a statement on behalf of 25 cast and crew members of the western film Rust, weeks after the sad shooting incident on the set of the film. Before the catastrophic October 21 accident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, the contents of the letter were targeted at defending the production against claims of ‘unsafe’ working conditions and ‘staff walk-offs.’

The producers have “not sanctioned or influenced in any way” according to the two-page letter. “We believe the public narrative around our workplace tragedy is inadequate and wish to convey a more truthful account of our experience,” the undersigned stated. The letter arrives a week after Alec Baldwin gave his first interview with ABC since the event, in which he emphasised that he is not sorry for what happened.

Alec Baldwin reads an open letter written by members of the Rust team.

“The descriptions of Rust as a chaotic, dangerous, and exploitative workplace are false and distract from what matters the most: the memory of Halyna Hutchins, and the need to find modern alternatives to outdated industry firearm and safety practises,” the actor wrote in a two-page letter posted to his Instagram account yesterday.

Hutchins was also dubbed “the” by his co-workers “”She was the beating heart of our production,” she said, adding, “Losing her wounded every single one of us.” We’re hurting because we’ve lost our sense of community, our spirit, and our ability to work together. We are heartbroken for our friends who have been singled out by the public and are grieving.”

The members are fully collaborating with the investigators while also supporting each other, according to the letter. “We respectfully beg that you keep your suspicions about us and our colleagues to a minimum until an inquiry has been completed. We are appreciative to our many friends and family members who have personally reached out to us to express their sympathy and support.”

According to People, Alec stated in his most recent interview with ABC that he ‘never pulled the trigger,’ instead cocking it and ‘letting go of the hammer’ when it finally fired. He also revealed that he has reoccurring dreams about that fateful day, and that the sight of guns keeps him awake at night.
