Dune co-essayist/chief Denis Villeneuve affirms that no 4-6 hour cut of Dune exists and that a chief’s cut will not be delivered for the science fiction epic. The film depends on Frank Herbert’s top of the line novel of a similar name in which the youthful Paul Atreides, child of an honorable family, should ascend to ensure the most important resource in the world on the desert planet of Arrakis in the far future. Herbert would follow up the 1965 novel with five continuations, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune.
Fully expecting the film’s delivery, Villeneuve talked with La Presse to examine the excursion to carrying Dune to the big screen.
