The Los Angeles Lakers are currently competing for a playoff spot, and their star LeBron James is focusing on that task at hand, however he also has retirement on the forefront of his mind. During a recent interview with Dave McMenamin of ESPN, James admitted that he will consider his retirement in the offseason.

Having already accomplished much success, James is no stranger to the idea of retirement, and he is already making plans for his future. “I’ll have a conversation with my wife [Savannah] and see what, you know, where our family stands and then kind of go from there,” James said.

When asked if this offseason is the one that he will make a decision on retiring from basketball, he replied, “The one thing that I’ve always done is consider my family.” He went on to explain, “At the end of the day, my family is my priority, so understanding especially where my boys are right now and continuing to be able to watch them grow and be able to put them in positions of success, and be able to watch them do special things in the game, that’s the thing that means the most to me.”

James has been a cornerstone in the league since 2003, where he was selected as the first overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has since gone on to lead two different teams, the Miami Heat and the Lakers, to the NBA Finals.

James was quick to note that he is still enjoying the game and in no way has an exit date in mind. “I love the game so much, and I just love what it brings to me and my family,” he said. “If it’s something that happens, the game of basketball has blessed me enough where it’s not only OK, it’s more than OK. It’s quite humbling.”

Only time will tell if James will decide to hang up his sneakers at the end of the season. But for now, he will continue to compete and devote his attention to helping the Lakers reach their ultimate goal of an NBA championship.
