Matthew Perry in a recent interview recorded ahead of the release of his new memoir, he alleges that when he started stealing tablets from strangers’ open dwellings, his opiate addiction reached a new level. Matthew told Diane Sawyer in a clip from their Friday, October 28 ABC interview that he needed 55 tablets daily to support his dangerous prescription drug addiction.

Matthew said to Diane, “I had to wake up and realize that I had to get 55 of them, or I was gonna be really sick. So I did all sorts of things, I had a bunch of doctors, and fake migraines, and all that stuff. I guess the weirdest thing I did, was on Sundays, I would go to open houses, and go to the bathrooms in these open houses, and see what pills they had in there, and steal them.”

He further said, “And I think they thought, ‘Well, there’s no way that Chandler came in and stole from us.'” In addition, Diane brought up the actor’s drinking issue and described how Jennifer Aniston addressed him. “And she says, ‘we know you’re drinking,’” Diane said. “Yeah,” admitted Perry. “Imagine how scary a moment that was. And I said, ‘how? I thought I was hiding it so well.’ And she said, ‘we can smell it.’ But I wasn’t in a position to stop, you know? And that’s what addiction is. But she was the one to reach out the most. You know, I’m really grateful to her for that.”

Matthew’s most recent confession follows a number of private disclosures in his upcoming book, Friends, Lovers, p the Big Terrible Thing, which will be released on November 1. He has made a number of confessions, some of which include feeling “unlovable” while dating Julia Roberts, having a serious crush on Jennifer before Friends debuted, nearly passing away after his colon ruptured from drug use, dating Cameron Diaz in secret, and having an odd obsession with Keanu Reeves still being alive.
