Euphoria star Zendaya expresses her expectations for season 3. Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya in the popular HBO teen drama developed by Sam Levinson, has been through a lot.

This is possibly best demonstrated in Euphoria season 2 episode 5, which is often regarded as the series’ high point and features Rue attempting to flee what she perceives as a horrible intervention from her friends and family.

The episode is a tribute to Zendaya’s skill and to what Levinson excels at, mixing the typical high school turmoil of love triangles and family disputes with a story of addiction that is frequently upsetting to watch.  

Together with her Euphoria co-stars Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, and Maude Apatow, Zendaya spoke during a special screening of the episode, “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird,” about what she hopes to see when the HBO show returns for season 3.

She opened up about how his own struggles with addiction served as inspiration for Rue’s struggles with addiction and how many fans have benefited from her experience.

Zendaya ends by expressing her hope that her character would be happy in the upcoming episodes.

She said, “I know that she can do it because Sam wrote it, and Sam is Rue, and he’s done it. He’s proof that there is hope for Rue and anyone like Rue, and from the beautiful letters and people who have reached out, I am so grateful for those experiences when somebody comes up to me, and they speak about Rue and how they’ve connected to her or whatever part of their healing journey she has been able to be a part of.

She said, "To me that is the greatest, greatest gift I can ever ask, it gives me euphoria and purpose in what I do. I just hope for a little bit of joy and for her just be able to breathe and love without the fear of losing. I mean she’s gonna have to go through some things, yes, but you know, we’ll get there.“ 

The cast and crew have stated that season 3 of the show would start filming as soon as possible in 2023, perhaps in the first few months of the year.
