Carry On, produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and starring Taron Egerton from Kingsman: The Secret Service, is the latest spy thriller in the works for Netflix.
Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed The Shallows, Unknown, Jungle Cruise, and Black Adam, both starring Dwayne Johnson, will direct the film.
TJ Fixman wrote the first draught of the screenplay, with Michael Green doing the most recent polish. Fixman is also working on Netflix’s Past Midnight.
Carry On, which was first announced in July 2022, is one among the projects in the works by Amblin Partners as part of their overall partnership with Netflix. Amblin Partners is led by Steven Spielberg, and the agreement was reached in June 2021.
Amblin’s president of production, Holly Bario, will oversee the project on the studio’s behalf. Brian Williams, Scott Greenberg, and Seth William Meier will serve as executive producers through Dylan Clark Productions.
Taron Egerton will play the principal character in Carry On on Netflix, Ethan Kopek. Recent roles for Egerton have been in The Kingsman, Rocketman, and Black Bird.
According to Deadline’s sources, he was the sole actor to read for the part and meet Collet-Serra; they got along right away, and a contract to sign on soon after.
Carry On is now in pre-production at Netflix, with filming set to begin on September 26, 2022, in New Orleans, Louisiana and Cleveland, Ohio in the United States
Netflix hasn’t disclosed any release dates for Carry On, but given its early development stage, we can presumably expect it in late 2023 or 2024.
