Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski, is a 2022 American action drama film. Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie wrote the screenplay based on a story by Peter Craig and Justin Marks.

Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer star alongside Tom Cruise as test pilot Maverick in the sequel to Top Gun.

The characters of Cruise and Kilmer are reprised from the first film.

Top Gun: Maverick had its world premiere at CinemaCon on April 28, 2022, and will be distributed in theaters in the United States on May 27, 2022.

It was supposed to be released on July 12, 2019, but it was pushed back to "enable the production to figure out all of the intricate flight sequences."

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and schedule issues, the production was further delayed.

After 36 years of service, test pilot Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell has purposefully avoided promotion.

Maverick is assigned to train a group of Top Gun grads for a particular mission on the orders of Admiral Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, a fellow naval pilot acquaintance and former adversary who is the head of the United States Pacific Fleet.

Lieutenant Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, Maverick's late best buddy Nick "Goose" Bradshaw's son, is one of them.

Cruise's performance as suave and daring US Navy aviator Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the 1986 hit Top Gun revolutionized his life and career, making him an overnight Hollywood heartthrob.
