Tom Selleck discloses his special bond with Matthew Perry On "Friends" Set

On a walk down memory lane, Tom Selleck, the man from "Magnum P.I.," revealed a special bond with Matthew Perry's Chandler Bing on the set of "Friends."

Tom Selleck portrayed Chandler Bing on "Friends"; just picture it! Selleck's character Richard Burke made the odd decision to adopt a more Chandler-like persona in a comical episode.

Selleck spilled the beans, saying, "We had this role reversal thing going, where (Richard) tried to be like them, and them like me."

It turns out that Selleck had a difficult time playing Chandler. Perry's sardonic delivery was difficult for him to take, particularly when it came to the statement "Could that shot be any prettier?" concerning foosball skills.

"Matthew had this speech pattern that I hadn't been aware of," admits Selleck. He went straight to Perry, the man himself, for advice.

Perry's well-known speech made an impact. Selleck remembers, "'It's a joke, Tom,' Matt informed me. It is how he puts it. He signed that.

When Selleck, now 78, joined "Friends" in Season 2, he and actor John Bennett Perry, Perry's father, developed a unique relationship. Selleck says, "How is your father doing?' I would ask Matthew when I saw him every day."
