The Greatest Performance by Dakota Johnson in This Gruesome Horror Remake

The creative team behind 2018's Suspiria is the most aware of the high expectations that are placed on any adaptation of a great classic, even before it opens.

When this version of the iconic 1977 movie of the same name was first unveiled, the horror community was surprised and incensed. It was directed by Luca Guadagnino.

With its flawless fusion of vibrant colours and gut-wrenching horror, the original Suspiria, directed by the legendary Dario Argento, is regarded by many as one of the best films in the genre and possibly the greatest Giallo film ever made.

It's understandable why it's reached such a high level of popularity, so when word leaked out that there would be a reboot that abandoned its exaggerated presentation in favour of a more subdued one, fans were instantly irritated

. This made the show's genius unexpected for the hordes of people who were prepared to brush it off as just another trashy reboot.

Although its unique take on the storyline undoubtedly contributed to this praise, Dakota Johnson, the film's star, was the real success factor.

As the protagonist of this rendition, the actress gives a captivating performance. She also epitomises the creepy tone of the piece while providing a steadying presence that unifies its chaotic aspects.

It's indisputable that the original Suspiria is one of the most influential films in the history of horror cinema, even though both versions are praised for their inventive storytelling.

The movie's concept—a young woman finds out her new dance company is run by witches who ritually slaughter their dancers—is original enough on its own, but what really sets it apart are its strikingly vivid colours and dramatic plot points, which combine to create a twisting and disturbing experience.
