The hot romance between Harry Styles and Florence Pugh comes apart in the trailer for Olivia Wilde's newest psychological suspense film, Don't Worry Darling.
After making her feature film debut in the coming-of-age comedy Booksmart in 2019, the actress-turned-director is back in charge of Don't Worry Darling and taking it in an entirely new way.
Reunited on the project is Wilde with Booksmart screenwriter Katie Silberman, whose work was based on a narrative by Dick Van Dyke's great-grandchildren, Carey and Shane Van Dyke.
Don't Worry Darling stars Pugh and Styles from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Alice and Jack Chambers, with Wilde, Chris Prine, Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, and Nick Kroll serving as standout members of the ensemble.
The movie revolves on Pugh's 1950s housewife who starts to doubt the nature of her utopian existence in the corporate town of Victory, which is funded by the enigmatic firm her husband works for.
Even if the initial Don't Worry Darling teaser leaned more toward its psychosexual thriller themes, something was obviously wrong with Victory.
The second trailer follows suit, with an increasing emphasis on its horror components as Alice starts having waking nightmares that seem to be triggered by routine activities.
In order to treat Alice's nightmares, a doctor in the voice of Timothy Simons from Veep advises her to "stay cool and continue on."
According to the new teaser, there are also some similarities to Blue Velvet by David Lynch and other movies on the idealisation of suburban America.
Don't Worry Darling looks like it'll have something for everyone when movie hits cinemas on September 23 with its lavish 1950s backdrop, hot romance, eerie atmosphere, and cultural satire.
