In celebration of Ghostbusters day, a new Ghostbusters animated feature film has been announced that celebrates the date that the first Ghostbusters was released in 1984.

A new movie had already been teased by Sony chairman Tom Rothman back in May.

Ghostbusters 5 is in active development, said the studio boss in an interview, and that the franchise universe will soon expand.

An animated feature starring all new characters and a new perspective will also be announced this morning along with the new Netflix animated series.

We still don't know much about the new Ghostbusters movie, but we know that it will revolve around a group of people who search for and capture supernatural threats.

Nevertheless, an expanded universe opens up a lot of opportunities for the franchise, including the possibility of a team-up in future installments.

Wouldn't it be great to see Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones return? It'd be great to see these Ghostbusters again, even though the new film will feature new characters.

We still do not know the cast, director, or release date of the new Ghostbusters movie.

Ghostbusters first premiered in 1984 and it starred Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver.
