Password sharing is about to be severely restricted by another major streaming service

Max is going to be the next streamer to take action against password sharing, according to a recent report.

Since its 2020 launch, Warner Bros.' streaming service has grown in popularity as more people use it to watch both new and old HBO series in addition to a vast library of other films and TV shows.

After Warner Bros. and Discovery merged in 2022, the service was rebranded to just Max in 2023.

Up until then, it was immune to Disney Plus's and Netfilx's crackdowns on password sharing.

Later this year, Max is going to start taking strong action against password sharing, according to Lucas Shaw's Bloomberg newsletter.

In an effort to increase the streaming service's profitability, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has decided to keep the measure in place until 2025.

Netflix began implementing efforts to stop users from exchanging passwords in May 2023.

The gradual distribution of these measures appears to have prevented a widespread outcry, as not all users were impacted simultaneously.

Disney then adopted a similar strategy, announcing last year that it would begin enforcing its own password sharing laws in 2024.

The official plan is for the House of Mouse's crackdown to begin this summer.
