Our Flag Means Death creator confirms that the show will officially not return for season 3

David Jenkins, the creator of Our Flag Means Death, has confirmed that the Max period romantic comedy has been canceled.

Our Flag Means Death, starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi, follows the exploits of wealthy landowner turned pirate Stede Bonnet until he meets the notorious Blackbeard.

The show gained a cult following very shortly after its 2022 premiere. But Max declared after the first two seasons that the third season of Our Flag Means Death will not be returning.

David Jenkins, the creator of Our Flag Means Death, confirmed on Instagram that the show was indeed ending and that they had been unable to find a new home for it.

The show's creator acknowledged the fan campaigns to rescue Our Flag Means Death and shared a few BTS pictures from the set, saying that they helped the people who worked on the show cope a little better with its cancellation.

Our Flag Means Death was well received by critics and viewers for its compelling stories and endearing characters, but it was particularly well-liked by the queer community, which supported the show because it adequately represented LGBTQ+ people and avoided clichés.

Many viewers were shocked to learn of the show's demise because they had been engrossed in the engrossing romance plots that had developed throughout the course of its first two seasons.

The historical comedy series Our Flag Means Death is largely inspired on the life of the gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet and is set during the period known as the Golden Age of Piracy (Rhys Darby).

Following numerous fan petitions to save the show and a great deal of conjecture about why HBO's streaming service decided to cancel Our Flag Means Death, HBO and Max chief executive Casey Bloys recently disclosed that although terminating the show was not an easy choice, the show's popularity on streaming services did not support its continuation.

Waititi, who plays the renowned Blackbeard in Our Flag Means Death, stated in an interview last year that he believes the show's season 2 finale was a fitting conclusion to the story of the show's main character.
