Recently, Netflix executive Peter Friedlander explained why it took so long to approve The Sandman Season 2.

In an interview with Variety, Friedlander the president of UCAN scripted TV at Netflix discussed the delay in the streaming giant’s approval of the second batch of Sandman episodes.

He added that we wanted to take the necessary time to synchronize our creative vision for the ideal follow-up to The Sandman wanted to take the time required to synchronize our creative vision for the perfect follow-up to Sandman

“"We wanted to take the time to talk over and discuss the strategy with showrunner Allan Heinberg and co-creator of The Sandman Neil Gaiman because Season 1 is also very intentional and planned. So, getting our ducks in a row took more time than expected.”

Several months after the first season’s debut, in November 2022, Netflix formally announced that The Sandman will return for a second season.
