Returning to the Seven Kingdoms and all of its intrigues, HBO has just shown the House of the Dragon series debut, and as was predicted, the first episode of the Game of Thrones prequel was highly anticipated.
The streaming service's attempts to accommodate everyone who wished to visit the dream continent revealed the expectations of followers.
Following the premiere, HBO published a "Weeks Ahead" clip that continues to tease Westeros's abundance of power and the brutal struggle that will ensue to wield it.
The trailer begins appropriately with the roar of an adult dragon watching a stalemate. "From my blood, come the prince that was promised, and his will be the song of ice and fire," is spoken by Milly Alcock, who plays the child Princess Rhaenyra, heir to the Iron Throne.
The teaser aims to highlight some of the major actors in this struggle for dominance as well as the difficulties that King Viserys Targaryen's (Paddy Considine) choice to name his firstborn child as the female heir to the throne presents. A queen with absolute power and authority is someone the realm will not accept in a world run on the whims of men.
As Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best), cousin to the king and aunt to the heir apparent, mentions, the realm will burn than for men to have a woman lead it.
Princess Rhaenyra, however, would not be deterred by this information as she tries to assert her right to the Seven Kingdoms' most deadly and powerful position. Her claim will not go uncontested or without a fight, as would be expected.
This impending civil war will be unlike anything we've ever seen because of the difficult decisions that must be taken in situations like these and the way that a desire for absolute power shatters relationships.
George R.R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood served as an inspiration for House of the Dragon. It is the fifth novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, which also served as the basis for the critically acclaimed television series Game of Thrones. The civil war in Westeros over who would rule the country and sit on the Iron Throne will be the focus of the prequel television series.
