The Joker sequel, officially known as Joker: Folie à Deux, recently unveiled its first official image, displaying artwork that is equally depressing and nihilistic as its forerunner.

A glimpse, albeit a very brief one, has been provided to Joaquin Phoenix's return to his Oscar-winning performance as Arthur Fleck, a.k.a. the Joker, in the upcoming sequel.

Director Todd Phillips, who used his Instagram to sneak in a Saturday afternoon surprise for fans, is the only source for the photograph.

The picture appears to show Arthur still at Arkham Asylum, where the story last showed him trying to escape, even though it isn't blatantly revealing about the movie's plot.

He is shown, however, with no shirt on, his head appearing to be pressed up against a table, his face smeared in shaving foam, and a person giving him an uneasy-looking shave.

The picture was used by Phillips to remember the first day of shooting, and it was accompanied with the statement "Our boy."

Despite the lack of significant information, the director's photo post suggests that Joker 2 production has only recently begun, which somewhat contradicts a recent story that indicated the particular start date of November.

Naturally, the theory that Arthur is still in Arkham Asylum fits with the Joker: Folie à Deux plot summary that the Film & Television Industry Alliance recently released.

Given that the psychopathic protagonist is about to meet his iconic, also psychopathic significant other, it does appear as though he might end up enjoying the shave job.
