Variety reports that American Born Chinese has been canceled by Disney+ after one season, meaning that Jin Wang's (Ben Wang) journey will not have the chance to realize its full potential.

The streaming site hosted the premiere of Gene Luen Yang's graphic novel adaptation last summer, but the studio was unable to proceed with a second installment due to insufficient viewership.

After today's cancellation, the show's creators will try to find a new home for the series. Only time will tell if Jim can fulfill his heroic quest or if this really is the end for American Born Chinese.

The first season's cliffhanger, in which Jim went home to discover his parents gone, would have been addressed in a second season of American Born Chinese.

The boy's next adventure began when Princess Iron Fan (Poppy Liu) begged him to come along if he ever wanted to see his parents again. Sadly, with the show's cancellation, Jim may not be able to save his parents, and their whereabouts remain a mystery.

Still, Jim was just beginning to learn how to use his abilities following an odd visit that altered his entire existence.

Jim is fighting to accept who he is in a school that seems to reject him for who he is, all the while having to assist his new friend in escaping from Niu Mowang (Leonard Wu), the Bull Demon.

Luckily, he had the support of other extremely strong creatures along the way, which enabled him to retaliate against the evil forces that intended to harm Sun Wei-Chen.

Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, was represented by Michelle Yeoh. The character moved in with Jim's family while attempting to find a way to subdue the adversaries who desired to confront the boys.

Conversely, Ke Huy Quan portrayed Jamie Yao, a former actor well-known for a part he performed in his youth. The two most recently starred in the global phenomenon, Everything Everywhere All at Once, which received seven Academy Awards.
