Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, set off a Marvel-scale meltdown when he revealed the date for the third episode of his wildly popular humorous anti-hero story,  Deadpool 3.

The most ridiculous Marvel character to ever appear on television will return on September 6, 2024, for more crude humour.

Reynolds provided this information in the same dry satirical manner as his heroic counterpart.  Reynolds addressed the public in a video announcement posted to Twitter, saying: "Hey everyone.

We're extremely sad to have missed D23, but we've been working very hard on the next Deadpool film for a good long while now.

I've had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, and we need to deliver a film that feels like Deadpool.

"It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside," he continued. "And I...have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here and terrifying. But we did have one idea."

Online excitement from MCU fans has understandably erupted in response to the historic event.  In Logan, when the protagonist infamously dies, Jackman last displayed his claws back in 2017.

There is still no word about how he will be brought back to life, but given Marvel's vast array of realms and infinity of possibilities, a means will undoubtedly be found.

Deadpool 3 hits theaters on September 6, 2024.
