Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the next Marvel film, is off to a solid start at the box office. Fans and critics alike have praised Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen's film.

The mid-credits scene features one of the most surprising cameos in the movie. When Charlize Theron appears as a strange character, she transports a stunned Strange to the dark dimension.

Despite the fact that the woman did not introduce herself, fans quickly deduced that she was Clea, a sorceress who appeared in the comics alongside Doctor Strange.

Charlize confirmed this a few days later when she posted photos of the character on Instagram with the caption "Meet Clea."

Michael Waldron, the film's screenwriter, disclosed to Vanity Fair that Charlize had been cast in the film even before the finale had been decided.

Clea has been Strange's protégé and subsequently love interest in the comics.

Many fans believe her presence in the MCU will pave the path for a romantic relationship between the two characters. Given that Strange's MCU love interest Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) is now married to someone else, this makes more sense (at least in one universe).

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, directed by Sam Raimi, is part of the MCU's fourth phase.

The film was released in theatres on May 6 and has grossed over half a billion dollars worldwide.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still doing well in theatres. Internationally, it has grossed $480 million as of May 9th.
