Following a terrible vehicle accident last week, Anne Heche was pronounced brain dead on Friday.

The Donnie Brasco actress was said to be brain dead earlier in the day

Medics were reportedly doing everything they could to keep her heart pumping so that the organ donation organisation could decide whether she was a match for organ donation.

Heche never regained consciousness after her crash on August 5 when she ploughed her blue Mini Cooper into a house in Los Angeles, according to her representatives.

She "suffered a severe anoxic brain injury" on August 11, and it was "not believed that she would live."

Now, in a statement to Page Six, the actress' reps confirmed her tragic state, "We have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend."

The statement continued, "Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy."

They continued, "Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact."

Soon after her collision, the actress fell into a coma and spent the entire following week in a severe condition.

The Los Angeles Police Department discovered that Heche was under the influence of cocaine at the time of the incident after obtaining Heche's blood samples.
