Users of Amazon Prime Video will notice that the streaming service has added adverts in the new year.

Amazon Prime Video subscribers will notice that the streaming service has added adverts in the new year.

Amazon has scheduled the move to go live on January 29th, following its announcement in September of last year that "Prime Video shows and movies will include limited advertisements."

Users can pre-register for an ad-free alternative on Amazon for an extra $2.99 per month.

"This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers," a message from the company sent by email to its members and on their user account reads

Advertisements won't appear on content that is bought or leased thanks to this modification.

Apart from the United States, Amazon intends to display adverts to its consumers in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Canada.

According to a prior press release, which also stated that Amazon does not intend to alter the existing price of Prime membership, users in France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia can anticipate the change to roll out later in the new year.

Currently, users can get Prime Video for $8.99 a month with a stand-alone subscription or for $139 annually with an Amazon Prime account, which costs $14.99 a month.
