If Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow will appear in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 again, producer Jerry Bruckheimer offers his opinion
Depp’s con artist pirate, first introduced to the series in 2003, has appeared in every film in the series to date.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales received a dismal critical response when it was released in 2017, and Depp’s legal issues with his ex-wife Amber Heard followed.
Bruckheimer now discusses whether Depp may return as Sparrow in the following Pirates of the Caribbean movie, following the recent word that Margot Robbie’s film has been placed on hold.
When asked whether Depp’s comeback is likely, Bruckheimer responded as follows.
The fact that the films depend so much on Depp’s persona may be one of the major flaws in both Pirates of the Caribbean:
Sparrow’s journey crosses with that of Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Will Turner in all three of the original trilogy’s movies, especially the first two,
The love story between Elizabeth and Will, who are more human and sympathetic characters, serves as the foundation for some of the most moving and poignant sequences in the first trilogy’s films.
Sparrow cannot be the sole character in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 for it to recapture some of the franchise’s initial enchantment.
