In the latest episode of HIMYF, a beloved character from HIMYM makes a comeback, following Neil Patrick Harris’ unexpected appearance in the Season 2 premiere.
In the most recent episode of How I Met Your Father, fans were treated to the return of a beloved character from its predecessor, How I Met Your Mother. Sandy Rivers, portrayed once again by Alexis Denisof, made a surprise appearance in the show’s second season episode titled “Ride or Die.” The episode revealed that Sandy, the sleazy newsman, had been demoted to reporting on entertainment news for “Good Day Live” due to unproven allegations.
Interestingly, these allegations would have been legal in the states where the supposed incidents occurred, as confirmed by HIMYF co-creator Isaac Aptaker in an interview with TVLine. It was also revealed that Sandy’s stint on “Good Day Live” takes place before his exile to Moscow, which was depicted in How I Met Your Mother’s ninth season. Fans of the show were undoubtedly excited to see this fan-favorite character back on screen and eager to see what other surprises HIMYF has in store.
Back in 2006, Alexis Denisof originated the role of Sandy Rivers in the first season of How I Met Your Mother, where he played the role of Robin’s co-anchor at Metro News 1. He later reappeared in season 6 after Robin moved to World Wide News and made his final appearance in season 9, where it was revealed that his career in American news had come to an end after being accused of workplace misconduct.
However, the show never specified when his time in America ended, which allowed the writers of How I Met Your Father to bring him back for “Ride or Die.” According to HIMYF co-creator Elizabeth Berger, this might not be the last we see of Sandy Rivers, as she hinted in an interview with TVLine that they would love to have Denisof return if the opportunity presents itself. Fans of the character can look forward to the possibility of seeing more of him in future episodes.
Josh Radnor Is Ready To be Cast in HIMYF
Sandy Rivers recently made a cameo appearance in How I Met Your Father, becoming the sixth character from How I Met Your Mother to appear in the spin-off series. Other characters who have made appearances include The Captain, Becky, Carl, Robin Scherbatsky, and Barney Stinson. However, there may be a seventh character to join the list if Josh Radnor has his way.
The actor, known for his role as Ted Mosby in all nine seasons of HIMYM, expressed his interest in making an appearance in the sequel comedy series in January 2023. Radnor revealed that he had a “sweet email exchange” with Hilary Duff, and they discussed the possibility of him being the “I” in “How I Met Your…”. He added that Duff has publicly expressed her desire to have him on the show, and he would be happy to accept an invitation to appear.
In a similar fashion to How I Met Your Mother, How I Met Your Father is a humorous television program available on Hulu, which revolves around Sophie. In the year 2050, Sophie decides to narrate to her son the tale of how she encountered his father. Hilary Duff plays the younger version of Sophie, while Kim Cattrall from Sex and the City serves as the narrator and also makes an appearance as the future Sophie. The show’s cast includes Chris Lowell as Jesse, Francia Raisa as Valentina, Suraj Sharma as Sid, Tom Ainsley as Charlie, and Tien Tran as Ellen.
