Story
In “The Pitch,” a young and promising ballplayer makes a single, fateful pitch for the New York Yankees and then abruptly disappears from the world of baseball. Over the next month, he vanishes from the public eye, spiraling into a life of homelessness and alcoholism. Decades later, following his death, a young sportswriter reads his obituary and becomes fascinated by the player’s tragic downfall. Determined to uncover the truth, he enlists the help of a retired sportswriter, who was once a close friend of the player. As they investigate, they learn that the player’s life was ruined by a sinister secret that the senior writer is doing everything in her power to keep hidden.
Plot
In “The Pitch,” a long-standing mystery is solved via the perspective of sports journalism. The protagonist of the tale was a once-promising baseball player who disappeared from the game a month after throwing just one pitch for the New York Yankees. His sudden departure caused him to suffer from homelessness and alcoholism for the rest of his life, which finally led to his death in his seventies. The movie centers on a young sportswriter who, drawn to the player’s tragic past, contacts a retired journalist who was the player’s boyhood buddy to get information. As the investigation goes deeper, it becomes evident that the retired writer is determined to keep a dark secret related to the player’s downfall hidden.
