Plot Summary

Two teenage girls, Taylah (Natalie Abbott) and Lucinda (Naomi Sequeira), navigate the highs and lows of getting ready for their local debutante ball in the small, close-knit town of Dubbo, Australia. Teenage rebel and free spirit Taylah is reluctantly pulled into the world of debutantes by her best friend Lucinda, who hopes to make a name for herself in their traditional community. The girls have to deal with family expectations, personal insecurities, and the quirky, sometimes heartwarming, aspects of small-town life as the big day draws near.

While everything is getting ready, Taylah’s crazy Aunt Janette (Rebel Wilson) comes back to town with lots of chaos and a new outlook. Janette assists the girls in defying social expectations and discovering who they really are by sharing her unconventional wisdom and irreverent humor. As they travel, they come across a diverse group of people, such as the kind but tough Shell (Tara Morice), the endearing but awkward Mitch (Hal Cumpston), and the endearing troublemaker Damo (Ioane Saula).
