Story

Following the unexpected and terrible passing of his girlfriend Daniela (Beatrice Grannò) in an automobile accident, Nicolás (Henry Golding) is inconsolable. He withdraws from the outside world and becomes overwhelmed with grief, unable to move past his loss. While trying to deal with his loneliness, Nicolás finds out about a sleep experiment that claims to be able to bring the dead back to life, at least in the context of lucid dreams.

Dr. Raymond (Frank Feys) and his scientific team, which also includes Drs. Émilie Vermeiren (Godeliv Van den Brandt) and Van Brandt (Cindy Claes), are in charge of the trial, which gives participants the opportunity to start over in their dreams with their departed loved ones. Nicolás eagerly enrolls in the trial in the hopes of finding comfort in the dream world because he is desperate to see Daniela again.

As the trial goes on, Nicolás starts to dream about Daniela and recreate their life together, reliving their past and making new memories. But as dreams and reality blend together, Nicolás finds himself growing more and more cut off from the outside world. His dreams involving Daniela grow more vivid, but they also disclose underlying anxieties and unresolved problems in their relationship.

Teresa (Aura Garrido), a trial participant who is also dealing with her own grief, is introduced to Nicolás. They become closer as they talk about their experiences and start to wonder what the real purpose of the sleep trial was. The mysterious character Garrido (Rubén Ochandiano), who seems to know more about the experiment than he lets on, makes Nicolás’ journey even more difficult by forcing him to face the truth of his circumstances.

Nicolás is faced with a heartbreaking choice as the dream world starts to fall apart: either wake up and face the harsh realities of life without Daniela, or continue living in an ideal but delusional world with her. The movie explores a wide range of topics, including love, grief, and the need to cling to the past. In the end, it raises the question of whether it is worthwhile to live in a dream even if it means sacrificing reality.

Plot Summary

Henry Golding plays Nicolás, a man devastated by his girlfriend Daniela’s (Beatrice Grannò) sudden death in a tragic accident in the science fiction drama Daniela Forever. The narrative is presented in a surreal and emotional way. Nicolás is having a hard time coping with his loss and finds it impossible to move on with his life. He learns of a sleep experiment that promises to enable participants to have vivid dreams of their previous lives out of desperation.

Nicolás is able to piece together his life with Daniela in his dreams because of the trial, which is run by an enigmatic research facility that melds reality and imagination. As he immerses himself deeper in these dream sequences, he rekindles the romance with Daniela, reliving the joys and sorrows of their relationship. However, as the dreams grow increasingly vivid and intense, Nicolás finds it more difficult to maintain his sense of reality and distinguish between his dream and the outside world.

Teresa (Aura Garrido), a trial participant who provides company and an alternative viewpoint on the meaning of dreaming, is of great assistance to Nicolás during his journey. The trial’s scientists, Drs. Raymond (Frank Feys) and Émilie Vermeiren (Godeliv Van den Brandt), start to disclose the real goal of their investigation, which raises moral concerns about the implications of their work.

As Nicolás becomes more and more enmeshed in his dream life with Daniela, he must make the difficult choice to either wake up and face the reality of life without her or carry on living in an idealized but artificial world with his fallen love. A poignant look at love, grief, and the need to hold onto the past set against the backdrop of state-of-the-art research and the complexities of human psychology is “Daniela Forever.”
