The CW Network has exciting news for fans of detective tales: David Thewlis, best known for his role in Fargo, will be depicting the iconic Sherlock Holmes in the forthcoming series Sherlock & Daughter, as the network disclosed on Thursday.
Introducing a novel narrative arc, the show will rock the world of Holmes, placing him in a precarious situation where delving into a dark case threatens the safety of those he holds dear. The plot thickens with the entrance of Amelia, portrayed by Blu Hunt of The Originals fame. Following her mother’s enigmatic homicide, Amelia uncovers that her absentee father might just be the fabled sleuth. Though stemming from starkly distinct backgrounds and clashing viewpoints, the duo is forced to join forces to unravel a sprawling conspiracy, solve the murder, and ascertain Amelia’s true paternity.
“The CW is broadening its slate of original shows with well-crafted scripted content that taps into widely recognized intellectual properties, promoting viewer engagement across various age demographics,” explained Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment at The CW. “Sherlock & Daughter introduces the critically acclaimed David Thewlis as the storied Sherlock Holmes. The collective efforts of our cast and production team breathe fresh life into the well-loved character,” he continued.
Slated for a 2025 release, Schwartz announced the series alongside other news at the network’s outing for the Television Critics Association’s winter tour.
Also joining the roster is Dougray Scott of Batwoman descent as Holmes’ arch-adversary, Moriarty.
