New Delhi: The world was shaken by the news of Matthew Perry’s death, for he was adored for his portrayal of Chandler Bing in the famed ’90s sitcom “Friends.” However, the reason behind his demise remained unknown until the results of his autopsy were disclosed on Friday (15th December). According to the report, the actor succumbed to the immediate effects of the anesthetic ketamine.
Cause of Matthew Perry’s Death
As per the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, Matthew’s passing was attributed to the immediate effects of the drug ‘Ketamine.’ The autopsy report also mentioned that his drowning in the heated pool was a contributing factor. Additionally, it highlighted coronary artery disease and buprenorphine, utilized to treat opioid use disorder, as further contributors to his demise.
Matthew Perry had been open about his battle with substance abuse, but as per the report, he had been ‘clean for 19 months.’ The actor allegedly underwent ketamine infusion therapy to combat depression and anxiety, and his last treatment was 1.5 weeks before his demise.
The report also revealed that Matthew had engaged in pickleball earlier in the day, and his live-in assistant discovered him face down in the pool upon returning from errands. During the investigation, the assistant informed the examiner that the “Friends” star had not been unwell and had not expressed any health concerns. Moreover, they stated that there was no evidence of recent alcohol or drug consumption.
Matthew Perry’s Demise
The news of Matthew Perry’s passing broke on 28th October 2023, after the actor was found unresponsive at his LA residence, having drowned in his heated pool. An inquiry was conducted to rule out foul play, and an autopsy was performed the following day.
Matthew had been vocal about his struggles with addiction dating back to his time on the TV show “Friends” in the 1990s.
In his 2022 memoir, Matthew penned, “I adored every aspect of the show, but I was grappling with my addictions, which only heightened my feelings of shame. I had a secret, and no one could know.”
