WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is experiencing the heights of his current Undisputed WWE Championship reign and is consciously avoiding making direct comparisons to Roman Reigns’ historic tenure with the title.
On a recent episode of The Babyfaces Podcast, Cody Rhodes shared his thoughts on his championship run in light of the benchmark set by Roman Reigns. Rhodes remarked that even if the zenith of his title run was WrestleMania 40, it would already stand out as exceptional in his career. Nonetheless, Rhodes is optimistic about what lies ahead.
Rhodes expressed, “A big part of my intent is for the matches to represent a new era for the title. Although the match against Logan [Paul] may not have fully realized that vision, the bout with AJ [Styles] certainly captured what I envisage for my time as champion. It’s important for me to define my own legacy with the title rather than constantly being contrasted against Roman [Reigns]’ extraordinary period as champion, especially as he led WWE through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.”
“Roman’s time with the titles was so unique. I’m focused on carving out my individual path. And truthfully, if WrestleMania 40 is as good as it gets, it’s still an extraordinary moment. However, I have an intuition for what’s next in the industry, and I believe things can only improve from here,” he added.
Cody Rhodes is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against AJ Styles in an I Quit match at the forthcoming WWE Battleground event.
