Pro wrestler Adam Copeland has been sidelined due to a serious leg injury.
During the AEW Double Or Nothing event on Sunday, Copeland, while retaining his TNT Championship against Malakai Black, sustained a significant injury. His high-risk attempt of an elbow drop from the top of a steel cage resulted in a rough landing, causing him to fracture his tibia upon impact with Black and a table.
Copeland’s injury was a cause for concern among spectators, which he later confirmed via Twitter with a video on Tuesday morning.
“Reflecting on Double Or Nothing and my recent flight back, I have to say Malakai Black is truly a beast. The entire House of Black is just top-tier. And now, as shown in this clip,” Copeland stated, “It seems the House always comes out on top, as I’ve made a couple of unsavory new friends.” [indicates his crutches]
He then humorously commented on the crutches: “I’m not too fond of them; they’re like those annoying friends who won’t leave your side. Perhaps I’ll call them Brody and Buddy, I don’t know. [laughs]”
Your Return is Awaited, Adam
Adam Copeland elaborated on how the unfortunate accident that led to fracturing his tibia occurred, emphasizing it was due to his brain not being in sync with the capabilities of his body. Surgery is on the horizon, possibly being set for the following week.
“I’ve been in high spirits recently, having the time of my life wrestling—until my hubris caught up with me,” he explained. “Eventually my body had to remind me of what I seem to forget—my age, 50. I’ve got to start making wiser choices, and so my body hit the emergency brakes on me midway through a stunt. Now, I’m faced with a fractured tibia and upcoming surgery. I’m still unsure about the recovery time.
“I’ll be focusing on my daughter Ruby’s birthday this Friday and all the positives in my life. Despite the negatives, such as my impending surgery, I’m fully aware of what needs to be done,” he furthered. “I’ll have a better grasp on the timeline next week… Apologies if I’m rambling, as I’m not fully awake yet [laughs]. Well, until I’m back, I hope everyone stays well and happy. See ya.”
