Rivian, the electric vehicle innovator, has unveiled updated iterations of its inaugural R1S SUV and R1T pickup. Available for the 2025 model year, these vehicles begin at $69,900 for the R1T and $75,900 for the R1S, both now open for orders.
First deliveries for the R1S are beginning shortly, with the R1T to follow. Despite a visual similarity to their 2022 predecessors, the 2025 models present significant internal enhancements, particularly with their electronic systems and software. The number of ECUs has been reduced from 17 to seven, accompanied by a 1.6-mile reduction in wiring.
Rivian’s new Autonomy Platform, a comprehensive suite of driver-assist technologies, includes 11 cameras, five radars, and AI prediction capabilities. Although standard, an optional upgrade encompasses additional features, all engineered to perform under varied weather and lighting situations.

The updated models feature an exhilarating Quad-Motor AWD setup boasting 1,025 hp for sub-2.5-second 0-60 mph sprints. Those seeking less intensity can opt for the 850-hp Tri-Motor AWD or Dual-Motor AWD in a 533-hp standard or 665-hp Performance variant. Rivian now self-designs and manufactures these motors.
Battery choices for the Dual-Motor version include Standard, Large, and Max packs, while the more powerful Tri and Quad-Motor models pair exclusively with the Max pack. Depending on the configuration, estimated ranges stretch from 258 to 420 miles, with the latter achieved using the Dual-Motor and Max pack combo. Thanks to DC fast-charging, recharges from 10-80% take about 30-40 minutes.
To boost efficiency, Rivian has integrated a new heat pump, devised aerodynamic 22-inch wheels, and offered drag-reducing tires. The revised suspension system, which now includes air springs, improves ride comfort without affecting off-roading prowess.

Updates extend to enhanced exterior lighting and a new interior sound system with Dolby Atmos. Rivian has also launched Connect+, a subscription service for added apps and content streaming via Google Cast. The setup now accepts certain Apple and Google Pixel devices as digital keys.
Production of the updated R1S and R1T continues at the company’s facility in Normal, Illinois. Aside from these nearly full-size models, Rivian has teased the smaller R2S SUV and R3 hatchback-like vehicles, previewed in March.
