Tyler Perry Faces $260 Million Lawsuit Over Alleged Sexual Harassment and Gender Violence

Actor Derek Dixon—who appeared on 85 episodes of Tyler Perry’s The Oval and Ruthless—filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on June 13, claiming Perry used his considerable power to create a “coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic.” Dixon alleges Perry offered career opportunities in exchange for sexual favors and then escalated to harassment, assault, and battery when his advances were rebuffed.

The complaint outlines a string of disturbing events. Perry is said to have invited Dixon to his home under professional pretenses, only to:

  • Initiate non-consensual touching (including groping and pulling off clothing) in bed.
  • Send explicit text messages, such as asking, “What’s it going to take for you to have guiltless sex?” apnews.com,
  • Use intimidation and control to retaliate when Dixon objected or tried to establish boundaries.

Dixon asserts that after refusing advances, Perry retaliated—ends leading to professional consequences. He claims his character was killed off the show, a promised pilot deal was never sold, and he endured pressure, fear, and financial harm including emotional distress and PTSD. He even filed an EEOC complaint in 2024 before leaving the show.

Dixon is seeking $260 million in damages. The lawsuit draws parallels between Perry and notorious figures such as Weinstein, R. Kelly, Cosby, and Diddy—accusing him of believing his fame made him untouchable.

Tyler Perry has strongly denied the allegations, with attorney Matthew Boyd calling the suit a “shakedown” and “fabricated” with every intention to extort. Perry’s legal team maintains the claims are false and designed to derail his career and reputation.

This lawsuit marks a pivotal moment in Tyler Perry’s public life and Hollywood culture. If proven true, Dixon’s claims would dramatically reshape how power and trust function in the industry. For now, the allegations have sparked a fierce legal battle between a global media mogul and a former cast member seeking justice.
