Trump Chooses Texan Brooke Rollins as New Agriculture Secretary

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Brooke Rollins as his nominee for Secretary of Agriculture. Rollins, a Texas native, was praised by Trump for her deep commitment to supporting American farmers, promoting food self-sufficiency, and revitalizing agricultural-dependent small towns across the U.S.

Background and Qualifications:

  • Education & Early Life: Rollins is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Development and a J.D. with honors. She hails from Glen Rose, Texas, a small town with strong agricultural roots, and has a longstanding connection to farming, both personally and professionally.
  • Experience & Leadership: Rollins has an extensive history in agricultural policy and leadership, including her involvement in organizations like Future Farmers of America and 4-H. She also has hands-on experience in farming, having guided her four children in show cattle careers. Her background merges practical farming experience with deep policy expertise in both nonprofit and government leadership roles.
  • Trump Administration Experience: During Trump’s first term, Rollins served as the director of the Office of American Innovation and the acting director of the Domestic Policy Council. Afterward, she co-founded the America First Policy Institute, a think tank focused on advancing pro-Trump policies.

Role and Responsibilities:

If confirmed by the Senate, Rollins will lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), a vast agency with nearly 100,000 employees and offices in every county across the nation. She will oversee a broad array of responsibilities, including farm and nutrition programs, forestry, food safety, rural development, and agricultural research.

Rollins' appointment comes after speculation that former Senator Kelly Loeffler of Georgia might be selected for the role, though Trump ultimately chose Rollins for this critical position.
