Tristan Rogers, Fan-Beloved Robert Scorpio of General Hospital, Passes Away at 79

Tristan Rogers, the veteran actor who brought Robert Scorpio to life on General Hospital, passed away on August 15, 2025, following a brief battle with lung cancer. He was 79 years old. His passing was confirmed by his longtime manager, Meryl Soodak, and the news has left fans and colleagues in deep mourning.

Rogers made the character of Robert Scorpio truly unforgettable. What was supposed to be a one-day role back in 1980 turned into an enduring legacy spanning more than 1,400 episodes. Over seasoned decades, Scorpio became a core part of Port Charles—and of many fans' lives.

His manager described Rogers as a warm, grounded individual who cherished the role and created Scorpio from the ground up. “He was supposed to work a day, and he ended up making it into something huge,” she reflected. “He was just a genuinely loyal, kind human being, and he loved his family.”

In a statement shared shortly after Rogers' passing, General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini expressed profound grief and admiration for his longtime colleague. “The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers' passing,” he said. “Tristan has captivated our fans for more than 50 years, and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio).”

Born in Melbourne in 1946, Rogers started his career in Australian television and made the leap to Hollywood in 1980. His first appearance on General Hospital quickly became a career-defining moment. Scorpio, originally a World Security Bureau agent, later evolved into Port Charles’s police commissioner and district attorney—becoming an iconic figure in soap opera history.

Rogers’ legacy includes his involvement in one of daytime television's most remarked-upon episodes: Luke and Laura’s wedding, watched by over 30 million viewers in 1981. It remains the most-watched soap opera hour in U.S. TV history.

Though Scorpio’s dramatic death in 1992 seemed final, Rogers returned multiple times—first as a spirit in 1995, then in a full return starting in 2006. His appearances continued through the related General Hospital: Night Shift spin-off, and later into the 2010s and early 2020s, with his final few episodes airing just after his cancer diagnosis was revealed.

Beyond General Hospital, Rogers lent his talents to other popular daytime dramas, including The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. He also voiced Jake in Disney’s The Rescuers Down Under and earned a Daytime Emmy for his role in the digital drama Studio City.

Here in July 2025, fans learned that Rogers had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Despite a brave outlook, his condition progressed swiftly, and he passed away just weeks later.

Rogers leaves behind his wife, Teresa Parkerson, their two children, and a grandchild. Meryl Soodak emphasized his dedication to family and fans, noting both his creative spirit and personal warmth.
