Travis Kelce Spills on His School Days and Hosting Debut in New Game Show—You Won’t Believe His Favorite Subject!
Travis Kelce, the charismatic Kansas City Chiefs tight end, is not just dominating the football field—he’s now taking on a new role as the host of Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? premiering on October 16th on Prime Video. And in true Kelce fashion, he’s ready to surprise fans with some insights about his school days that may catch you off guard.
In a recent interview with Extra, Kelce, 34, opened up about his childhood and school experience. While it’s no surprise he was heavily involved in sports, Kelce revealed that he was actually pretty sharp in the classroom too. “I was one of those kids that tested rather high,” he shared, before adding that his focus was more on playing sports than hitting the books. “I was playing sports more than studying,” the football star admitted with a smile.
However, when it comes to hosting Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, a show that quizzes famous faces on elementary school subjects, Kelce revealed that his academic strengths lie in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). “I just stay in there,” he said about these subjects. But history? That’s a different story. Kelce joked, “Any history questions, I’m like, ‘I don’t know if anybody knows that,’ and sure enough, everybody does but me.”

As a competitive athlete, Kelce naturally compared himself to his brother, retired NFL star and Monday Night Countdown commentator, Jason Kelce. Travis confessed that Jason was always the more studious sibling, excelling in honors classes while Travis avoided them due to the heavy workload. “He tested well and all that. He decided to be in all advanced classes, and I was like, ‘that’s too much homework for me.'”
Despite his self-deprecating humor, Kelce is clearly excited about hosting the Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? spinoff, saying, “I grew up loving game shows… I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one.”
The new show promises plenty of laughs and competitive fun, with a star-studded lineup of contestants, including comedians Nikki Glaser and Natasha Leggero, NFL legend Chad Ochocinco, and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Garcelle Beauvais. Kelce is looking forward to seeing how these celebs handle questions pulled straight from elementary school subjects.
Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? premieres its first three episodes on October 16th, with weekly releases to follow on Prime Video. As for Kelce, you can catch him back on the field with the Chiefs on October 7th when they face off against the New Orleans Saints on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
