The Sticky: A Sweet and Sinister Heist Comedy

The upcoming comedy series will be called "The Sticky", and its debut has been slated for December 6, 2024. It promises a uniquely Canadian flavor to the heist genre. Quirky enough by itself, combining it with crime and very syrupy stakes of a rather unlikely target, maple syrup, makes the show a product of Brian Donovan and Ed Herro. The former directs through Michael Dowse, while Joyce Wong directs Michael Dowse. The tale is actually from Adriana Maggs and Shannon Masters. "The Sticky" is the quirkiness that will thrill you.

At the center of "The Sticky" is Ruth Landry, played by Margo Martindale, a determined, middle-aged maple syrup farmer beset on all sides by bleak futures. So, when bureaucratic red tape and corporate greed threaten her way of life, Ruth decides to take matters into her own hands. Her solution? A daring heist to steal from Quebec's maple syrup reserves. In this plot to retake control, Ruth teams up with two unlikely minions: a boisterous Boston gangster (Chris Diamantopoulos) and a mumbling French-Canadian security guard (Guillaume Cyr), who bring their own singularities and strengths to the job.

We have the coming together of local industry and organized crime in mock hilarity but sharp satirical edge, substituting maple syrup for so much more common crime targets. The comedy plot is all high stakes-exaggerated, absurd, and carried out in the best ways, so that grounding the humor in rather relatable struggles and relationships and holding fast to its crime-caper roots.

Jonathan Levine, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jason Blum, and Gillian Bohrer are all on board to team up in making "The Sticky, a production that is under the headship of Blumhouse Television in association with Megamix Productions. Having Jamie Lee Curtis in it makes the production stand out because she belongs to both horror and comedy streams. Her background blends well with the characterization as portrayed in "The Sticky.".The cinematography of the series, led by Michel St-Martin, captures the stark and often snowy landscapes of Quebec for a very unusual showdown between small-time criminals and corporate power. FM Le Sieur's music score should be playful yet suspenseful to draw viewers into the mix of crime and comedy on display.

Complementing its lead cast, the series also counts Gita Miller, Guy Nadon, and Mickaël Gouin among its cast list. Between them, the three go on raising the depth and kitsch levels of a world inhabited by maple syrup farmers, mobsters, and middlemen. It is here that their acting holds much promise: to narrate frequently absurd, human sides of a high-stakes heist - and then carry a show with a hole full of humor, though no shying away from poignant or darker moments.

Audiences will witness a lot of comedy with heavy undertones of satire and suspense in "The Sticky". The series informs about the depth people have when their lifestyle is threatened, thus stretching borders into crime. In the hands of its creators, "The Sticky" unfolds with hopes to be as sticky as the syrup in pulling viewers into a sticky, hilarious world in which crime and comedy start becoming about the same things. Be a fan of heist stories or not, "The Sticky" will sure find an impossible-to-beat recipe that tests the patient for laughs only.
