The life of Mike (Lyon Beckwith), a down-and-out real estate agent who is having financial difficulties, is followed in “The Realtor.” Mike’s career is in danger of collapsing, his sales are drastically declining, and his confidence is completely destroyed. In his desperation to make a breakthrough, he finds an unusual way out: working as a professional wrestler on the side. Under the guidance of Robert Remus, a retired wrestling coach, Mike gains both metaphorical and practical knowledge of the ropes. He finds, juggling the two worlds, that his real estate career benefits greatly from the abilities and self-assurance he developed in the ring. Opening Weekend: $5.7 million
Total Domestic Gross: $25.4 million
Worldwide Gross: $38.2 million
“The Realtor” had a modest but successful first weekend thanks to its intriguing concept and positive word-of-mouth. Due to its broad appeal and successful comedy-wrestling formula, the movie made a consistent profit during its theatrical run. It was not a big hit, but it did well enough to be called a success, especially considering its niche appeal and comparatively small budget.
